A 50kW solar installation, including panels and electrical system, for Hall Farm near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

Hall Farm were looking to introduce solar panels to their farm building near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and we were appointed to undertake the installation of a 50kW solar solution.

It was great to work on this new solar installation in the glorious Norfolk countryside. The installation, start to finish, took just 2 days.

Solar panels, rails, distribution board…

Hall Farm were looking to benefit from electrical efficiencies through the use of solar power, using the ideally elevanted barn roof at the site. There was no previous installation at the site.

The project was undertaken in May 2019 and was completed in 2 days.

  • SOLAR PANELS RAILS: We supplied and fitted the Rails to the roof, setting them out for 174 PV panels and 9 strings which were tied in a tray containment system on the roof and then back to the 2 invertors inside.
  • DISTRIBUTION BOARD: We supplied and fitted a new 3 phase Distribution board for the 2 invertors. Power was taken from the incoming LV side of the main switch.
  • INTERNAL / EXTERNAL WORKS: We supplied and fitted a tray containment system to support all the AC and DC cabling. An additional CAT6 Screened cable was installed from the Comm’s cab to the invertor so that the client can monitor how much electricity is being generated.
  • TESTING: The DC cabling was tested several times to ensure we had the correct polarity and to check the voltage on the cables that was being generated. This installation was giving us 750-800 volts DC per string on an open circuit. All the AC works was tested and certificated to ensure compliance with BS7671.
